Jim Mangan

Biography

Jim Mangan (b. 1973, La Grange, Illinois) is a Los Angeles-based photographer and filmmaker whose work critically engages with the subcultures and ecologies, especially pertaining to the American West. Mangan takes an ecological and sociological approach to his work, observing his subjects and their interactions with their environment for extended periods of time. His work seeks to forge a sense of connectivity with the earth and of disparate communities. For nearly a quarter century, he lived in Colorado and Utah to study water rights and drought habitats, and his most recent series, The Crick took over six years to complete.
