Jim Mangan
Biography
Jim Mangan (b. 1973, La Grange, Illinois) is a Los Angeles-based photographer and filmmaker whose work critically engages with the subcultures and ecologies of the American West. Mangan takes an ecological and sociological approach to his work, observing his subjects and their interactions with their environment for extended periods of time. His work seeks to forge a sense of connectivity with the earth and of disparate communities. For nearly a quarter century, he lived in Colorado and Utah to study water rights and drought habitats, and his most recent series, The Crick took over six years to complete. Mangan has a forthcoming solo exhibition at the Nora Eccles Museum of Art, Logan, UT (February 2026) and a group exhibition at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City, UT (January 2026).
